The Italian Olympic Committee has ruled that the president of the country's winter sports federation Giovanni Morzenti was elected in an irregular vote and removed him from office. Morzenti won the FISI election in April 2010 with 50.6 percent of the votes but a small ski association asked that the election be annulled for irregularities including reported falsely signed ballots.

Canadian skier Britt Janyk has retired after a 15-year run with her national team. She won a World Cup downhill in 2007 and finished sixth in the downhill at the Vancouver Olympics last year. Switzerland's St. Moritz and Italian resort Cortina d'Ampezzo have made a third straight bid to host Alpine skiing's world championships. The International Ski Federation said Tuesday that bidding for the 2017 event is a three-way contest with Are in Sweden. St. Moritz and Cortina lost to Austria's Schladming for 2013 rights and Vail-Beaver Creek in the United States for 2015.

Swiss-Moldovan skier Urs Imboden has retired from Alpine racing after a career in which his change in national affiliation prompted a rules change. Imboden skied for Switzerland at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, finishing fifth in the slalom. He changed nationalities in 2006 after failing to keep his place on the Swiss team, skiing for Moldova at three world championships from 2007-11.
