French skier Noens sidelined for 6 months (AP) 21/03/2011 10:50
French slalom specialist Nastasia Noens will be sidelined for six months after partially tearing ligaments in her left knee. The French skiing federation said Noens had surgery Monday after aggravating the injury during training earlier this month. The 22-year-old Noens first thought the injury would heal with some rest and competed at the Lenzerheide World Cup finals last week.

World Cup champion Maria Riesch helped Germany win the season-ending team event on Sunday. Germany defeated Italy 3-1 in the final that involved teams of two men and two women racing head-to-head on parallel giant slalom courses. Riesch defeated Denis Karbon in their heat, one day after winning her first overall World Cup title.

Lindsey Vonn overcame a concussion and won three titles in three days this month. Yet she was powerless when faced with wet, foggy weather and a decision by skiing's ruling body to cancel the women's season finale. "Win or lose, I just wanted the chance.
