| In 2008, we skied the south route. Like most of my trips, what eats me is the anxiety. Having done the route once before, I felt comfortable. That turned out to be my undoing. The south route is very different and is more serious in my opinion. It is more glaciated and one needs to do more route finding. I miscalculated a turn on the 3rd day and got help from local skiers. | |

| The mayors of Briançon and Montgenèvre have proposed building a lift between Serre Chevalier with the Milky Way in Italy to create the largest linked ski domain in the world. The Milky Way offers 400 km of piste, 140 ski slopes, 93 lifts and 1 board park and is linked to the French ski area of Montgenèvre via Sestrières. Serre Chevalier would add another 250km of runs spread over the ski areas of Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve la Salle and le Monetier les Bains. | |

| A Swiss woman has been killed by an avalanche skiing off piste at la Toussuire in the Sybelles ski area. The woman was with her husband in the Vallée Perdue when they triggered a small slide. The husband gave the alert from a shop in resort. The victim was found by an avalanche dog under 150cm of snow. Légette du Mirantin | |

| A series of avalanches in the Northern French Alps have killed five skiers and snow-shoers. The two snow-shoers were killed late this afternoon by an avalanche in the Flaine area. The alert was given around 16h00. The group were in near the summit of the Arbaron when a cornice collapsed beneath them triggering an avalanche 140cm deep in places. | |

| 3 mountaineers were caught in a slab avalanche today in Glencoe Scotland. They were swept 500 feet from a cornice scarp on the normal ascent route of the mountain Buachaille Etive. All 3 were in cardiac arrest. 2 were dug out by companions and one was located by spot probe. | |
