Some five years after the last of Germany?s three existing indoor snow centres opened, the fourth, ?Snow Dome Sölden in Bispingen? is due to open this weekend, 21st October. A fifth, the long awaited SnowFun Park, is scheduled to open in December.

With their victory in the first Parallel Slalom of the Nokia Snowboard FIS World Cup 2006/2007, Amelie Kober (GER) and Austrian Siegfried Grabner had the perfect start in the first event of the new season?s Snowboard World Cup. The events were staged at Dutch Indoor Snow Centre Snowworld Landraaf, which currently has the world?s longest indoor ski slope at 520m.

Russia?s first indoor snow centre is due to open in the next few months, but several more are either under construction or close to it, most exciting the Freestyle Park Moscow. This has been designed with another list of world firsts from the British team that pioneered indoor snow in the early 1990s and have gone on to global success with centres including Xanadu, Madrid and Ski Dubai.

A new challenge has been laid out for skiers and boarders in aid of Cancer Research UK. The Ski Everest Challenge to be staged at the Sno!Zone in Xscape Braehead, Glasgow on Sunday 22nd October is to ski the vertical height of Mount Everest indoors (29035 feet/8850m).
